Updates

What's shipped in Goldberg, and what we're building next.

Smoother lookups, better ways to stay in the loop

This update is smaller than v1.0.0, focused on cleaning up rough edges and giving the community more ways to keep up with what's shipping.

  • /email's local Google lookup is fully wired up now. Profile photos, cover photos, active services, and public review counts all resolve properly instead of showing as unconfigured.
  • New: Blog Notifications. Opt in from the support server to get a DM the moment a new update goes live, so you don't have to check back manually.
  • New: role-pinged announcements. Admins can now push a message to any channel with specific roles pinged, so update posts actually reach the people who want them.

v1.0.1 is out now.

Project Rework

We're actively working on v1.1.0, and the centerpiece is Project Rework, a new lookup engine we're building for username searches.

/username currently works the way most tools like it do: it checks a site and reads the response to decide whether a profile exists. Project Rework takes a different approach. It reads the actual page a site returns, the title, the page metadata, whether it says a profile wasn't found, and uses that to make the call instead. The goal is fewer wrong answers, in both directions.

It's still early. Right now it runs on its own as /projectrework, separate from /username, so nothing about your existing lookups changes yet. We're testing it against a smaller set of sites before it takes on the real thing.

More on this as it moves out of prototype.
